I had trouble falling asleep at night. I was stressed about my marriage and we were on the verge of getting a divorce. After my wife and I talked for a bit we decided we needed couples counseling and a friend of mine referred me to Gulf Coast Therapy Center. Their staff was very welcoming and after several sessions, I realized where my stress was coming from. After finding the source, my wife and I reconnected and our marriage has been going smoothly ever since.

Treatments Offered

Therapists at Gulf Coast Therapy Center offer a wide array of effective modalities used in clinical psychology. A family therapist is ideal for conducting family therapy and discovering any parenting issues that could be the source of depression within the family. A licensed mental health counselor could be the defining factor in young adults facing relationship issues and needing couples therapy.

Luckily, therapists have done a lot of groundwork in understanding the human mind. Clients can ease their anxiety knowing the psychological issue they face will most likely have a treatment for that issue, whether it is trauma based or dealing with anxiety.

Therapists at Gulf Coast Therapy Center use some of the modalities listed below to help clients live better lives, whether they are adults or children.

Solution-Focused Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

Eye movement desensitization reprocessing therapy, or EMDR therapy, is a type of psychotherapy that is a phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way. The therapist will present images, self-thoughts, emotions, and body sensations connected with the trauma to allow the natural healing powers of the brain to move toward an adaptive resolution.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a talking therapy that can help manage issues your having. This is done by identifying thought patterns and changing the way one thinks and behaves. CBT is a popular method used to treat anxiety and depression, but this type of therapy has been known to heal other mental and physical problems.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, is a modified type of cognitive behavior therapy. This type of therapy focuses on teaching people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate emotions, and solve relationship problems they have with others and form healthy new relationships with others.

Originally this type of therapy was developed to treat borderline personality disorder but has been discovered to help those having difficulty with emotion regulation or showing signs of self destructive behavior such as eating disorders and substance abuse disorders. Additionally, this type of therapy has been used on occasion to treat post traumatic stress disorder.

Mindfulness Therapy

Mindfulness based cognitive therapy (mindfulness therapy) is a type of psychotherapy that combines cognitive therapy, meditation, and mindfulness. This type of therapy was meant to build upon cognitive therapy, integrating it with a program to form mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy.
